Ukraine and Germany push on to the next level of energy partnership

August 26, acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olha Buslavets met with Federal Minister of Germany for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier in Berlin. During a meeting the sides inked a joint intergovernmental statement between Ukraine and Germany on the establishment of an energy partnership.

Ukraine and Germany agreed to strengthen cooperation on the integration of Ukraine's energy markets into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), to increase energy security, to decarbonize the economy, to exchange innovations in energy technologies and to implement joint projects in the field of green energy development, digitization of energy infrastructure and modern energy system.

"The signing of the joint statement is the beginning of a new level of dialogue between Ukraine and Germany in the field of energy. I am confident that this will be an impetus for the implementation of new strategically important projects to reform the coal industry and transform the coal regions, the development of renewable energy, including hydrogen, and its integration into the network, increasing the use of energy efficiency technologies in all sectors," Energy Minister of Ukraine stressed.

The parties are committed to promote energy transformation, exchange developments of government policy in the field of energy, improve the conditions for private sector investment in sustainable energy.

Moreover, the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Joint Statement was also held.

The Ministry of Energy will be the coordinator and will chair the Committee on the Ukrainian side, and the Federal Ministry of Germany for Economic Affairs and Energy - on the German side.
