  • Ukraine and Moldova praise progress in implementation of the road map for cooperation – a meeting of the Prime Ministers

    Ukraine and Moldova are demonstrating effective cooperation in terms of implementation of the road map for border cooperation, discussing new infrastructure initiatives and planning to bring mutual trade already to  1 billion according to the results of this year. This was announced during the meeting between Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip.

    The Heads of Government met in Kyiv, where Pavel Filip on November 24, will participate in the commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.

    Volodymyr Groysman thanked the Moldovan counterpart for his high attention to the history of Ukraine, especially its tragic periods. According to him, such steps encourage mutual understanding, mutual respect and ensure openness and constructive relations between the countries.

    During the meeting, the  parties noted that the planned joint activities between Ukraine and Moldova are being implemented. Thus, joint control was introduced at the international border checkpoint Kuchurgan – Pervomaysk, two more checkpoints are being prepared for this procedure. The issue of staying motor carriers on the territory of the two countries is settled.
    In the near future, the start of construction of a new bridge across the Dniester and the further realization of the project of integration of power systems of two countries with the European ENTSO-E.

    The sides positively assessed the work of the joint Commission on the resolution of environmental issues.

    "I want to commend the positive trends in our mutual trade. According to the results of the first half year, we have a growth of 40% - to about $500 million. We can reach $1billion, according to the results of the year ", Volodymyr Groysman emphasized.

    Background

    Moldova ranks the TOP-30 trade partners of Ukraine and the TOP-20 promising markets identified by the state export strategy for the period up to 2021. Key articles of Ukrainian exports - ferrous and nonferrous metals, agricultural products and textiles. The separate export items are electric power and automotive equipment.
