The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the adoption of the resolution "Commemoration of the 90th Anniversary of the Holodomor – Ukraine Faces Genocide Again" by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This resolution not only reaffirms the recognition of the 1932-1933 Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people but also emphasizes Russia’s current genocidal intentions in its aggression against Ukraine.

This important decision honors the memory of millions of innocent Ukrainians who perished as a result of the artificial famine – a genocide orchestrated by the Soviet regime. By acknowledging the deliberate policies that led to mass starvation aimed at destroying Ukrainian national identity, PACE underscores the importance of historical truth and justice.

The resolution highlights the direct connection between past crimes and the current atrocities committed by the Russian Federation. Systematic attacks on civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, and mass war crimes and crimes against humanity demonstrate genocidal intent aimed at erasing Ukrainian identity.

We are deeply grateful to the members of PACE for their solidarity and support. This renewed recognition serves as a powerful reminder to the international community of the urgent need to prevent further Russian atrocities and hold accountable those responsible for these horrific crimes.

Ukraine remains unwavering in its determination to defend its sovereignty and protect its people. We call on all nations and international organizations to recognize the Holodomor as genocide, condemn Russia's ongoing aggressive and genocidal actions, and support Ukraine in its fight for freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.
