Ukraine and Uzbekistan introduce "transport visa-free" regime for freight transport
Ukraine and the Republic of Uzbekistan are liberalizing international road freight transport. On 30 September, Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk and Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov signed the relevant Protocol. It amends the Agreement between the governments of the two countries on international road transport.
The signed document establishes at the interstate level the possibility of carrying out bilateral and transit freight transport without permits. As a result, carriers will no longer need to obtain and use permits for such transport between Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
"Today we are taking an important practical step for Ukrainian carriers: moving to a permit-free system for bilateral and transit freight transport. This removes an administrative barrier for business, simplifies carriers' work, and creates better conditions for developing trade between our countries. For Ukraine, it is especially important to expand the geography of liberalized road transport and build stable logistics links with partners," said Mykola Kalashnyk.
Previously, international road transport between Ukraine and Uzbekistan was carried out on the basis of permits. This system involved quotas and the need to exchange permits between the countries, which created additional administrative procedures for carriers.
