Ukraine hosts PSVI Alliance technical meeting
On 27 August, as part of its chairmanship, Ukraine held the third technical meeting of the International Alliance on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI Alliance). In her opening remarks, Ukraine’s Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, Kateryna Levchenko, emphasised that over the eight months of its chairmanship, Ukraine has consistently implemented the roadmap outlined at the start of its term.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to Alliance members: “We thank all members who supported the One Voice campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. We saw your posts across platforms and networks, which amplified our collective efforts.”
The PSVI Alliance unites 19 states and 13 non-governmental organisations, aiming to strengthen efforts to prevent and respond to conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) through sharing best practices, training, and a survivor-centred approach. In 2025, during Ukraine’s chairmanship, a special initiative was launched to collect and analyse best practices in applying a survivor-centred approach since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2467.
Alliance members submitted examples of best practices, selecting initiatives they wished to highlight. Based on these contributions, a draft publication was presented at the technical meeting, compiling experiences from both states directly affected by CRSV and those advancing the issue through foreign policy and international projects. The document will be finalised in the coming months and presented at the concluding event of Ukraine’s chairmanship in November 2025. This conference aims to strengthen the collective response to CRSV and formally transfer the chairmanship to the next country.
Participants were also informed about an event on the sidelines of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, focused on urgent interim reparations, scheduled for late September. The event, in partnership with the Global Survivors Fund and Spain’s Permanent Mission to the UN, will further highlight Ukraine’s priorities during its chairmanship.
Alliance members were encouraged to nominate candidates for the chair and co-chair positions for 2026. Ukraine remains committed to continuing its work as a co-chair next year, ensuring a smooth transition by transferring all developed materials and supporting the new chair during the process.
