Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 02 March 2023 20:19

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm as part of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate meeting in Zagreb. The parties discussed further cooperation in the energy sector.

German Galushchenko thanked his colleague for the assistance to the energy sector of Ukraine, in particular, the mobile gas turbine power plant recently provided to Ukraine by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“The installation of such gas turbines in different regions of Ukraine will help decentralize generation and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to critical infrastructure and consumers,” the Energy Minister said.

German Galushchenko also briefed Jennifer Granholm on the provisions of the updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2050, which prioritizes clean and safe energy based on a decentralized energy system. The Minister added that Ukraine would be grateful to the American side for its proposals on this document.

The meeting also focused on joint efforts to implement the Net Zero World initiative, which aims to accelerate the transition to clean, secure energy systems and build a carbon-free world.

The parties also discussed deepening cooperation in the nuclear industry and the corporatization of Energoatom.

Given the experience and prospects for cooperation with the United States, it is very important that the best experts join the process of advising on this process, and Energoatom becomes the most efficient, transparent company, a world leader in nuclear energy.

German Galushchenko said that Ukraine had put forward its candidacy to the IAEA Board of Governors and counted on the U.S. support in this matter.
