Ukraine and Moldova will accelerate integration with the European electricity market. This was discussed during a meeting between Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova Victor Parlicov in Kyiv.
The parties discussed areas of cooperation in the energy sector, emphasising the importance of deepening cooperation in the gas and electricity sectors. This is important for strengthening the energy security of the region. In particular, German Galushchenko stressed the importance of completing the integration of the electricity markets of Ukraine and Moldova with the EU markets.
“Expanding opportunities for cross-border electricity exchange with European countries will improve the security and reliability of electricity supply. And we count on Moldova’s support in promoting this issue at the ENTSO-E level. Increasing the capacity for electricity import/export will strengthen our common energy security,” he said.
German Galushchenko also stressed that Ukraine appreciated cooperation with Moldova in the field of gas storage and was interested in expanding it. He reminded that Ukrainian UGS facilities had been certified in accordance with European rules and were ready to provide their capacities to international partners for storing natural gas on mutually beneficial terms.
