Ukraine and France deepen cooperation in the energy sector
Ukraine and France are deepening cooperation in the electricity and nuclear industries, renewable energy and other areas that are key to restoring and modernising Ukraine’s energy system after the massive destruction caused by the enemy.
During the meeting between the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and the French delegation led by Pierre Heilbronn, Special Envoy of the President of the French Republic, with the participation of the Ambassador of France to Ukraine Gaël Veyssière, the parties discussed specific projects for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector to be financed under the Grant Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of France to support the restoration and maintenance of critical infrastructure and priority sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
“We have been discussing the implementation of many energy projects for a long time and have been receiving significant support from France. This includes the supply of necessary equipment, as well as short- and long-term projects that help us prepare for the next heating season and strengthen our energy infrastructure. Thanks to this cooperation, we are laying the foundations for future cooperation and the reconstruction of Ukraine,” said German Galushchenko.
The parties discussed in detail the priority needs of the Ukrainian energy sector, including the French assistance in developing distributed generation, providing border regions with backup power and mobile substations. The parties also discussed medium- and long-term cooperation, namely the development of solar energy, transmission systems, and improving the efficiency of oil production.
Pierre Heilbronn noted the interest of a number of French companies in strengthening cooperation with Ukraine, including EDF, ENEDIS, Arabel Solutions, GE Vernova and Schneider Electric.
According to the Presidential Envoy of the French Republic, this partnership can be useful in the short term and pave the way for long-term cooperation. Ukraine and France are close in their energy mix due to the combination of nuclear power and renewable energy sources. In his opinion, this lays the foundation for long-term and fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
Special attention during the meeting was paid to the training of energy specialists and technical assistance.
