Participants of a plenary session of the Ukrainian-Belgian Mixed Commission for Trade, Economic and Financial Cooperation held in Brussels discussed opportunities for development of cooperation, including, in the field of energy efficiency and clean energy.

Fruitful talks with the Belgian officials took place with the participation of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Oleksii Perevesentsev, H.E. Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Belgium Mykola Tochytskyi, representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, Ministry of Infrastructure and State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE).

"Belgium, which is one of the leading European countries, is an important partner for us," Serhii Savchuk, Head of SAEE stressed.

Considering the potential of joint work, the parties discussed the legal incentives in Ukraine and the planned transition to the auction system, as well as investment-attractive projects published on the map "UAMAP".

Apart from that, Serhii Savchuk drew attention to the burning need to kick off projects of generation of energy from garbage. Every year in Ukraine about 10 million tons of garbage are collected. "With considerable resource potential, we are interested in attracting both investment and advanced clean technologies in the field of energy utilization of garbage", he emphasized.

In addition to renewable energy, energy efficiency is a promising direction for collaboration, in particular, energy services in the budget and residential sectors.

"I am assured that consolidation of our efforts and realization of joint investment projects in the field of energy efficiency and clean energy will be beneficial for reducing energy dependence and economic growth of both countries," the Head of SAEE underscored.
