Taras Vysotskyi discusses prospects for cooperation in the agri-sector with representatives of the Japanese Embassy

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi met with representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for development of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation, in particular, in the agri-sector.

At the centre of attention was cooperation in the following areas:

  • climate change and irrigation;
  • development of the alternative energy sources industry;
  • deep processing;
  • development of animal husbandry;
  • development of agri-technologies, production of agricultural machinery;
  • construction of vegetable storage facilities;
  • realisation of joint projects in the food industry;
  • ensuring global food security.

Taras Vysotskyi thanked the Japanese government and people for their consistent support of Ukraine. In particular, for the fruitful cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) regarding the realisation of the grant programme for emergency recovery of the agricultural sector. As well as the activities of the Japanese-Ukrainian working group on the strategy for restoring agriculture, which is being realised jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.

“Among the priorities of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture is the continuation of the irrigation reform, support for farmers, especially in frontline territories. The Ministry has also focused its attention on the development of agro-processing and biofuel production. And Japan’s assistance in realising projects in these areas is very important for Ukraine. This will contribute to the faster recovery of the Ukrainian agri-sector, the development of sustainability in rural areas and ensuring international food security,’ emphasised Taras Vysotskyi.

The Deputy Minister noted the importance of expanding cooperation with the Japanese side, in particular with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and searching for new areas of cooperation.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed the upcoming visit of a Japanese business delegation to Ukraine.
