  • Situation in energy system on 20 July: enemy attacks facilities of an electricity transmission system operator; consumer restrictions in place since 06:00
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 20 July 2024 11:23

    GENERATION, TRANSMISSION, CONSUMPTION

The situation in the energy sector remains difficult. There is a significant shortage of generating capacity in the system due to massive enemy attacks since spring this year, and shelling continues, especially in the frontline areas. Substations and power transmission lines often come under fire.

Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s power system has been receiving surplus electricity from the Polish power system.

Today, it is planned that the hourly outage schedules will be in effect from 06:00 to 24:00. For information about changes in the schedules, please visit the official websites of the regional power distribution companies in your regions.

There will be no outages for critical infrastructure companies and companies that import more than 80% of electricity for their needs in accordance with the government decree.

The main reason for the electricity supply restrictions is the enemy’s attacks on the energy infrastructure and the negative consequences of these attacks. 9 GW of generating capacity has been lost.

    CONSEQUENCES OF THE SHELLING

In Poltava region, equipment at a high-voltage substation was switched off during an air raid, which led to a blackout of several overhead lines, substations and household consumers. A fire broke out at the substation. The fire was extinguished. Consumers were partially supplied with electricity via a backup scheme.

In Sumy region, a fire broke out at a high-voltage substation during a UAV attack, which led to a shutdown of equipment and a loss of the substation’s own needs. The fire was extinguished.

In Chernihiv region, a UAV attack shut down equipment at a high-voltage substation. Several substations, household consumers and a company were cut off from power. The inspection revealed a fire at the substation, which was extinguished. Consumers were partially supplied with electricity.

In Kharkiv region, a high-voltage overhead line was disconnected as a result of hostilities. Consumers were not cut off from power.

    EMERGENCIES

Ventilation equipment at a mine in Donetsk region stopped working. At the time, there were 33 workers in the mine, all of whom were brought to the surface.

    POWER OUTAGES

Power engineers supplied power to 16,102 consumers who were cut off from electricity as a result of hostilities.

In total, 541 settlements remain without power due to the hostilities and technical violations.

    SITUATION AT ZNPP

The water level in the cooling pond is 14.89 metres. This is enough to meet the needs of the plant.

    IMPORT/EXPORT

During the day, imports from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary with a maximum capacity of 1,385 MW are planned.

No exports are planned and are not expected.
