Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová to discuss key areas of European integration in the field of environment and preparations for the COP29 Climate Change Conference.
“Today, we are talking not only about our membership in the European Union, but also about new rules and technologies that will be used to restore Ukraine’s green economy. The EU’s support is very important to us. The priority that we are talking about today to the whole world is climate finance for Ukraine. Our climate policy is developing rapidly and requires practical steps,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
Katarína Mathernová noted that despite the full-scale war, Ukraine was gradually moving towards its European integration goals. The discussion focused on Ukraine’s progress on the path of reforms and this year’s results of the European Commission’s assessment of the progress made by the EU candidate countries.
The EU Ambassador assured that the Ukrainian side could always count on the EU’s expert assistance in the negotiation process. In particular, the EU is currently developing a technical assistance programme and is open to suggestions on Ukraine’s priorities.
“I thank Katarína Mathernová for a productive conversation. Our European goals are unchanged, so I hope that our dialogue will soon develop into technical cooperation between our experts,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
