The Government has allocated almost UAH 400 million to repay arrears of wages to Ukrainian miners. The decision was supported during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on July 14.
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine is officially launching a program for the fair transformation of coal regions. Pilot projects will be implemented with the support of international partners in Chervonohrad and Myrnohrad. However, according to him, the start of this process does not mean that the Government will turn a blind eye to the social problems of the industry.
"The fair transformation of coal regions is not about closing mines, but about creating new industries, new opportunities for business development, the formation of new infrastructure and social support programs. In addition, it means improving the environment and part of the project to decarbonize our economy," the Prime Minister stressed.
Denys Shmyhal noted that since the beginning of the year, the Government had spent more than UAH 2 billion on arrears of miners' salaries.
