During his working visit to Brussels, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST).

The parties discussed issues of ensuring energy security in the region, including the supply and creation of new strategic natural gas reserves.

According to German Galushchenko, Ukraine has been able to maintain stable operation of its fuel and energy sector despite ongoing russian attacks, with the enemy currently focusing on targeting gas infrastructure, including gas production.

“We are already thinking and preparing for the next winter. In particular, the issue of pumping gas into storage facilities is important. Ukraine’s gas storage facilities are the largest in Europe and can form a reserve that will ensure security of supply not only for Ukraine but also for Moldova, Slovakia and other countries in the region,” he said.

Furthermore, in the context of energy security, an important topic of discussion was further cooperation on European integration and the unification of the electricity markets of Ukraine and the EU.

The parties also discussed the implementation of the repair campaign and the restoration of energy supply after the damage caused by russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
