May 5 - International Day of protection of rights of persons with disabilities
On May 5, events aimed to draw attention of the world community to the problems of people with disabilities, the need to protect their rights and dignity and provision these people with such conditions of environment in which they can equally participate in all the spheres of life are being held all over the world.
In that respect, it is worth noting that this day is important not only for people with disabilities, but for the whole society. Involvement of people with disabilities in all spheres of community life creates obvious benefits for civil society and stimulates its development.
International Day of protection of rights of persons with disabilities dates back to May 5, 1992, when people with disabilities from 17 countries simultaneously held the first all-European day of the fight for equal rights and against discrimination of persons with disabilities.
