Ukraine stands ready for the practical implementation of the Energy Partnership with Germany and for the launch of bilateral projects. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal emphasized during a meeting with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel, which took place on August 22.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Nord Stream 2 project poses a direct threat from Russia to the geopolitical position of European countries.
"We count on the EU to take measures to counter the putting this facility in operation. We also hope to preserve Ukraine's status as a supplier and transit country of natural gas to the European Union and to confirm the use of the Ukrainian GTS with the necessary volumes," the Head of the Ukrainian Government said.
Denys Shmyhal accentuated that the Government of Ukraine is committed to actively continue cooperation with Germany and the European Union in the framework of the green energy transition.
“The integration of the Ukrainian energy system into the European network ENTSO-E is a priority and our strategic goal. Ukraine is firmly committed to the assumed obligations to ensure full integration planned for 2023, which will give Ukraine real energy independence and the opportunity to separate from the energy systems of Russia and Belarus," said the Prime Minister.
According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, cooperation in the field of renewable energy and hydrogen is a promising area of the Energy Partnership.
"We are interested in pilot hydrogen projects with German partners to start joint production and transit of hydrogen to Germany and Europe. Several Ukrainian project proposals on hydrogen have been submitted to the German side for consideration," said Denys Shmyhal.
He added that Ukraine would welcome the launch of several bilateral pilot projects by the end of this year.
Angela Merkel assured that cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the field of energy would be prolonged. The German Chancellor stressed that Germany supports the continuation of gas transit to Europe via the Ukrainian gas transit system.
