On April 11, 2023, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko and First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain Nadia Calvino met during the IMF and the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, USA.
Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, Deputy Minister of Finance for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk and Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa also took part in the meeting.
The parties discussed the current economic situation in Ukraine and the deficit of the state budget for 2023.
“I am grateful to the Government of Spain for supporting Ukraine and providing a grant in the amount of USD 50 million of direct budget financing through the mechanism of the World Bank. However, the war is still ongoing and continues to cause significant damage to the economy of Ukraine. The Government of Ukraine is making every effort to preserve the country's financial stability. Cooperation with EU partners will play a key role in mobilizing the necessary resources to overcome the devastating consequences of the russian invasion,” said Sergii Marchenko.
During the meeting, the representatives of Ukraine and Spain discussed the need for rapid recovery and further reconstruction, as well as increasing sanctions pressure on russia.
Sergii Marchenko also announced the scale of Ukraine's losses and damages from the russian war of aggression, which were presented in the joint report of the Government of Ukraine, the World Bank, the European Commission and the United Nations - “Second Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment” (RDNA2).
