  • Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko met with the Minister of Finance of Germany

    During a working visit to the USA, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with the Minister of Finance of Germany Christian Lindner.

    Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa, and Deputy Minister of Finance for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk also took part in the meeting.

    The parties discussed the current state of the economy and financial system of Ukraine, and the possible tools for increasing financial support from international financial organizations and donor countries.

    Sergii Marchenko thanked Christian Lindner for the leadership in supporting Ukraine, including the provision of a grant of EUR 1 billion to finance priority, in particular social and humanitarian, State Budget expenditures.

    On July 1, Ukraine received a grant from Germany in the amount of EUR 1 billion. The funds were directed through the Administrated Account of the IMF.

    "Grant assistance made it possible to finance the provision of the most urgent needs of Ukraine. Thank you personally and the German Government for your support on the financial and sanctions fronts. Germany is one of Ukraine's key partners in the struggle against the aggressor", Sergii Marchenko noted.

    Taking into account the continuation of hostilities, in 2023, Ukraine needs USD 38 billion to cover the budget deficit. The parties discussed possible tools for predictable attracting of funds to the State Budget.

    Additional information

    Since the start of martial law, Ukraine has already received EUR 1.3 billion from Germany to support the financial and budget system.
