On April 14, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko met with Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers in Washington, DC.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, Deputy Minister of Finance for European Integration Yuriy Draganchuk and Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa.
Sergii Marchenko outlined the state of Ukraine’s economy and financial system and spoke about the country’s financial needs.
“As a result of the efforts and support of our international partners, we are more confident in financing the current year’s budget deficit. At the same time, this year we are starting to recover Ukraine, which we expect to implement with the support of foreign donors and the private sector,” said Sergii Marchenko.
USD 14.1 billion is the priority need for rapid recovery in 2023. Of this amount, USD 3.3 billion has already been allocated in the State Budget, and the Government of Ukraine is actively cooperating with international partners to raise the remaining necessary resources: “We have already received confirmation from our partners on the provision of funding for the rapid recovery, in particular from the U.S. and the EU, but we still have significant needs,” the Minister of Finance of Ukraine added.
The parties agreed to continue a constructive dialogue on potential areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Australian Treasury.
