Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE) Serhii Savchuk met with Mr. Matti Lassila, Ambassador for Energy and Climate Change of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland to discuss the effectiveness of cooperation between Ukraine and Finland in clean energy and energy efficiency.
The Head of SAEE thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland for fruitful partnership and significant support of Ukraine in the framework of the implementation of the bilateral Memorandum of Partnership signed in January 2017 during the visit of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to Finland.
For Ukraine, this is a mutually beneficial cooperation, because Finland has already exceeded its plan by 2020, reaching more than 38% of "clean" energy in 2016.
"So, over a period of two years of close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation, we have established Finland Ukraine Trust Fund. The total value of the new trust fund is EUR 6 million. It’s core objectives are aimed at financing the preparation of "green" projects in Ukraine with the participation of Finnish companies, technologies and investments", Serhii Savchuk stressed.
The development of qualitative feasibility studies for projects, especially in the following areas: installation of biomass cogeneration units; production of bioethanol and biodiesel; generation of energy from garbage; growing of energy crops is one of the main tasks of the Fund.
Finland Ukraine Trust Fund is already working and accepting applications for project preparation.
Having considered the current results of cooperation, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation by taking into account the most promising green projects for Ukraine and Finland.
