  • Ruslan Strilets told about consequences of Kakhovka HPP dam blast at the meeting of EU environment ministers

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets invited his fellow ministers to visit Ukraine so that they could see with their own eyes what the war is leading to. And understand what russia is. Because today you can see this only here, in Ukraine.

"Unfortunately, there are things that we will never restore. These are the ecosystems that were washed away into the Black Sea after the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam explosion. These are 20,000 animals that potentially died. These are endemic species that were found only in the south of Ukraine. These are losses that cannot be estimated in monetary terms," said Ruslan Strilets.

Together with its partner countries, Ukraine has developed unique methodologies for assessing environmental losses. For more than a year of the great war, the damage has already exceeded EUR 52 billion.

The Minister thanked his European colleagues and the European Commission for supporting Ukraine in these days today.

"The Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has no alternatives. This is the basis of Ukraine's path to peace. These are the words of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. I thank Sweden, which currently holds the presidency of the Council of the EU, for the opportunity to remind us once again today of the terrible crimes that russia commits every day on our land. I thank European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius for his constant systematic communication and support of Ukraine in our struggle for our land and environment," Ruslan Strilets said.
