According to the decisions of the court on various gas disputes, Russia and, in particular, gas giant Gazprom, will have to pay to Ukraine a sum more than UAH 8 billion, and these funds will be paid in one way or another in favor of our state. This statement was made by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman on air of one of the national TV channels.
"We won ruling in a Stockholm arbitration court. It's $ 2.5 billion dollars. Almost $ 6 billion (UAH 172 billion) - on the suit of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (for violation of the antitrust laws). It is $ 8.5 billion. They do not want to implement the court’s decision, but they will not escape this", the Head of Government stressed.
Background
At the end of Febuary, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce has satisfied a claim by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine regarding Gazprom’s failure to fulfill the gas transit contract. Gazprom, following the ruling of the Stockholm arbitration court will pay compensation for certain amount of gas that was not supplied to Ukraine. However, Russian gas giant does not comply with the court decision.
The Government's position was repeatedly voiced. According to the Prime Minister, the country’s position in the Gazprom situation should be rigid and consistent. Gazprom has to comply with the ruling of the Stockholm arbitration court. Moreover, the Head of Government emphasized, Gazprom has to comply with AMCU decisions to pay a fine to the tune of $ 172 billion USD imposed in 2016 for violating the antitrust legislation of Ukraine.
"In the current situation, we must consolidate all our efforts in order to make Gazprom fulfill all its obligations. For default of obligations, the Russian monopolist must bear strict responsibility", the Prime Minister claimed.
