Reform of industrial pollution reduction and control: Government approves procedure for tor transboundary consultations in the process of issuing integrated environmental permits
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the Procedure for Transboundary Consultations in the Process of Issuing Integrated Environmental Permits. The document was drafted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources to comply with the requirements of the Law “On Integrated Prevention and Control of Industrial Pollution”, which will come into force on August 8 this year, and thus Ukraine will switch to a new ideology of industrial pollution prevention.
The Procedure stipulates that cross-border consultations will be held:
under the procedure of the state of origin - regarding the likely significant adverse environmental impact on foreign countries as a result of the operation of facilities located in Ukraine;
under the procedure of the affected state - regarding the likely significant adverse environmental impact on Ukraine as a result of the operation of facilities located in foreign countries.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, together with the Recovery and Reform Support Team under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the international technical assistance project “Best Available Techniques and Management Practices (BAT) for Ukraine” (GIZ), continues to work on the reform of industrial pollution prevention and the development of bylaws necessary for the full implementation of the Law.
