Fellow compatriots!

On behalf of the Government, I congratulate you on the Constitution Day in Ukraine!

The adoption in 1996 of the Constitution of Ukraine was an irrevocable proof that an independent Ukrainian state became a reality. The Ukrainian people shaped their principles of building the State and society, determined the purpose of their statehood and the values laid down as its basis. We decided to build up a democratic social legal state, with the essential value being a person, his/her life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and security. We declared that the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine are the norms of direct action, and therefore, every citizen of Ukraine is directly protected under it.

Ukrainian society is changing and developing, however, the Constitution of Ukraine remains the main guideline in our social life and the touchstone we are constantly referring our actions to. Thus, having clearly recognized our unconditional desire to be part of European civilization, we have enshrined this course in the Constitution of Ukraine. From now on, any speculation around this issue is senseless, since the aspirations of the Ukrainian people captured in the Constitution of Ukraine are inviolable.

The Constitution of Ukraine is one of the determinant factors for the development of Ukrainian statehood and Ukrainian society, which is based on the supremacy of law. I am confident that it will further be a guarantee of the stability of our State and will always promote consolidation of the rule of law in Ukraine.
