Fellow citizens!

Today we celebrate a remarkable date - 100th anniversary of declaration of the Act of the Reunification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and West Ukrainian People's Republic. On January 22, 1919 on the St. Sophia Square eastern and western Ukraine united in an unified and independent Ukrainian state.

"Dreams, which have been existing for centuries and for which the best sons of Ukraine have died, came true. From here on, there exists only one unified independent Ukrainian People's Republic", the text of the universal made by the Directorate of the Ukrainian People's Republic says.

The proclamation of the Act of the Reunification became an epoch-making event  for the further formation of the Ukrainian political nation. Ukrainians finally understood that a unified, independent Ukraine had become a reality, thus the struggle for it should be continued. We had been stick to this idea over all the twentieth century.

Last year, Ukrainians from all over the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Ukrainian Revolution and the proclamation of the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic, and today we celebrate a milestone and significant event - the 100th anniversary of the unification of Ukrainian lands.

Just like a hundred years ago, the Ukrainians are again forced to defend the integrity and independence of own state and fight for the return of its territories with arms in their hands. In that we are united as never before. We honor all the fighters for the unity and independence of Ukraine, instance them as an example to the younger generation, strengthen our state: we raise the economy, modernize the army, and implement reforms. This is our duty to all generations of Ukrainians who contributed to this field day.
