Prime Minister: Reform of the school nutrition system means the health of children throughout Ukraine

Reform of the school nutrition system is the health of children throughout Ukraine, in every city, town, village or settlement. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in his address at the Third Regional Forum "Reform of the School Nutrition System", which took place on October 8 in Dnipro with the participation of First Lady Olena Zelenska.

The Prime Minister noted that having conducted a comprehensive inspection of schools throughout Ukraine, the Government had approved an Action Plan to reform the school nutrition system and ensured its implementation.

"More than two and a half thousand dining facilities were modernized in 2020 and 2021, which is a tremendous achievement in the implementation of the reform. It's not easy to just go and make repairs. It means to change the approaches so that Ukrainian schoolchildren receive a healthy and balanced diet," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of Government noted the importance of an open professional dialog, where, based on real examples and in-depth analysis, proposals and solutions will be developed aimed to accelerate the reform and improve its quality.

"Children grow fast, so I advice all of us: not to waste time. We need prompt decisions and quick positive results," said Denys Shmyhal.

For her part, First Lady Olena Zelenska noted that the reform of the school canteen today has become something more than just a reform.

"If it all started with my simple desire as a mother to provide healthy and tasty food at school for children, during these two years it has transformed into an important mission. And now, I'm sure it's not just a school canteen reform. This is a comprehension reform," said First Lady.

The Regional Forum "School Nutrition Reform" was held in Ukraine for the third time. The first event took place on August 13 in Bucha, and the second - on September 9 in Odessa. By the end of 2021, it is planned to hold two more forums in different regions of Ukraine.
