On Wednesday, July 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov opened the second turn of the new building of the Okhmatdyt Children's Specialized Hospital. This will allow the facility to provide a full range of care to children with cancer, including bone marrow transplants. Currently, the Ministry of Health is working to create such projects throughout Ukraine, as well as to improve the material base of medical institutions and increase the salaries of physicians.
"Six new departments have been opened, which will help save the lives of our children. These are unique departments not only because there is the most modern equipment, really, it was a demand of doctors, children, professionals, and we responded to it - the best modern equipment that exists in the world today, it is here. It seems to me that this is of paramount importance," said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"This is a department of the entire oncology profile and transplantation, including bone marrow. This is what our children need. Every year we spend about UAH 1 billion on treatment of our children abroad and this amount is not sufficient, because treatment abroad as compared to Ukraine is always more expensive, sometimes several times. And now the number of children who will be provided with such medical care will really grow," said the Minister of Health of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov.
Due to the introduction of the 2nd turn complex, 6 inpatient departments will be opened:
1. Department of Chemotherapy of Oncohematological Diseases with a Day-Patient Treatment;
2. Intensive Care Unit;
3. Department of Chemotherapy of Oncohematological Diseases with Intensive Care Unit;
4. Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy;
5. Department of Oncology with Intensive Chemotherapy Beds;
6. Department of Acute Rehabilitation.
A reference laboratory for laboratory diagnostics of oncohematological diseases is also opened; tissue typing department; cryobank; cabinets of psychologists.
The whole complex of the renovated "Okhmatdyt" will cover more than 67,000 square meters - several blocks, which will place 10 modern surgical departments, 4 departments of oncohematology and a newly created oncology department.
