Ukraine attaches great importance to cooperation with Germany at the level of individual communities and hopes that the example of cooperation between Berlin and Kyiv will help strengthen regional authorities. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a meeting with Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller, which took place on March 19 during a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Denys Shmyhal noted that collaboration between Kyiv and Berlin in the areas of energy efficiency, sustainable urban development and public communication is actively developing.
"We stand ready to cooperate in other areas as well - healthcare, public transport, environmental protection, culture, youth, sports and others. Berlin has a unique experience in uniting the city and further creating and developing state-of-the-art infrastructure. I believe that due to cooperation with Berlin, Kyiv will become an even more modern and comfortable city," the Head of Government stressed, adding that this visit will help intensify relations between Berlin and Ukrainian cities.
The Prime Minister commended the high level of scientific cooperation between the capitals and noted that they have significant potential to strengthen relations in the form of a number of projects enabling Ukrainian and German research institutions, universities and educational centers to cooperate.
"Education is the basis of development of the State. Given the large Ukrainian community living in and near the German capital, we would like to consider opening a Ukrainian-German bilingual school," said Denys Shmyhal.
For his part, Michael Müller supported the proposal to strengthen relations in the field of education. The Governing Mayor of Berlin noted that one of the steps in this direction could be the establishment of partnerships between Ukrainian and German schools for the exchange of students and schoolchildren.
