  • Prime Minister briefs on the Government measures to protect Ukrainians from COVID-19

    Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal participated in the Savik Shuster’s Freedom of Speech program, on air of which he expressed condolences to the families of those who died from coronavirus infection and outlined the Government’s steps is taking to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine.

    "The number one challenge facing us today is to prevent the spread of coronavirus and deterioration of the health of Ukrainians, and to save as many lives as possible. Therefore, the Government is acting promptly. The work is underway round-the- clock. The headquarters is working. All that can be mobilized and delivered - we import and mobilize. We work with business, regions and we are in touch with the heads of Regional State Administrations. We work with the National Security and Defense Council. I thank the citizens of Ukraine who are receptive, including, to helping health care workers. And one more request: accept with understanding the measures taken by Government," the Head of Government said.

    Among the appropriate measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, Denys Shmyhal outlined:

    Implementation of the emergency situation regime in six regions to maximize resource mobilization and protect the health of Ukrainians. The Prime Minister stressed that in several days more emergency regimes could be announced in several regions.

    The decision was made to form a State Stabilization Fund, which will allow to make prompt decisions on purchases of medical equipment, and will also allow to increase payments to doctors involved in the fight against coronavirus infection.

    The Cabinet of Ministers has considerably expedited  customs clearance of all necessary goods to overcome the epidemic.

    The Government is stepping up cooperation with China to obtain test systems and personal protective equipment, which will be distributed to regions next week.

    The Prime Minister has unveiled intention to establish  a Strategic Council, the composition of which will include the best economists of Ukraine. Together with the Government, the relevant council will work on those steps designed to ensure economic growth of Ukraine.

    Moreover, the Head of Government stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers is constantly cooperating with the National Security and Defense Council, as well as with the local authorities, in particular, with the heads of the Regional State Administrations almost several times a day. The Prime Minister called on the mayors to engage in the said cooperation and to work as one team.
