The first meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the return of assets of bankrupt banks chaired by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took place on April 1.
The meeting gathered together Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Kyrylo Shevchenko, Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska, Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Artem Sytnyk, Managing Director of the Deposit Guarantee Fund Svitlana Rekrut and others.
The participants of the meeting discussed ways to resolve problematic issues related to the return of assets of bankrupt banks.
"A consensus regarding the problem and a strategic vision are one of the main tasks of our working group. Our goal is to develop a strategy that reflects our shared vision for this issue. It is critical to start this work because society expects that from us," said the Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko reported on the current state of affairs with the return of assets of bankrupt banks.
In turn, Svitlana Rekrut told about the measures taken by the Deposit Guarantee Fund to return the assets of bankrupt banks. Moreover, she suggested steps to speed up and improve work in this direction, in particular, to develop a concrete action plan for the return of assets by former shareholders.
Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko, for his part, noted that the Verkhovna Rada had registered Bill №4546, which will allow the Deposit Guarantee Fund to be more effective in returning assets. In particular, the legislative initiative provides for the improvement of mechanisms for preserving the assets of banks that are withdrawn from the market, preventing the loss of their assets and satisfying a larger number of creditors of the bank.
On the outcomes of the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the members of the interagency working group to prepare proposals for the development of a consolidated strategy for the return of assets of insolvent banks.
