The first meeting of the Organizing Committee for Perspective Development of the Babyn Yar National Historical Memorial Preserve was held on April 29 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. We must develop a common consolidated position on the principles of memorialization of this place in order to honor the memory of the victims," the Head of Government said.
According to the decision of the Organizing Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance with the participation of all stakeholders should ensure public and expert discussion of the Babyn Yar Integrated Development Concept with expansion of the boundaries of the Babyn Yar National Historical Memorial Preserve.
This year's date of mourning in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy is determined October 6.
The Organizing Committee also approved a set of educational, scientific and promotional activities that will raise public awareness of the population on the issue of honoring the victims of World War II and the Holocaust in particular.
The meeting was attended by, in particular, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Anton Drobovych, representatives of the Office of the President, Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, representatives of public organizations.
