Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took part in the events on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, which were held with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv.
The Head of State noted that more than a thousand-year history of our statehood proves that Ukraine needs to win, because there is no confidence that russia would not return with aggression even after the russian occupiers are expelled from Ukrainian land.
"Today we celebrate the Day of Statehood. It is the second time we celebrate it in the context of a full-scale war. And we all want to celebrate this day next year in our free capital, together with our heroes, but with victory. The victory that will be the beginning of a well-deserved and just peace for our entire land, for all our people. Only the victory over slavery gives true freedom, and the power of victory determines the strength and duration of peace," the President emphasized in his speech.
In his address on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, the Prime Minister emphasized that over the course of a thousand years of history, Ukrainians had understood not only the importance of their own state, but also the painful and bloody price of its loss. Thousands and thousands of brave people at different times were united around one mighty idea - to win Ukraine's independence and create a strong, unique and successful state for future generations.
"Ukraine is all of us together and each of us in particular. Ukraine is our aspirations and beliefs, for which our fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters are fighting on the frontline today. It is the peaceful sky above our parents' house and the laughter of children on the river, our favorite job and the hugs of our loved ones, the calm of the morning and the quiet of the night. This is our life," said Denys Shmyhal.
The participants observed a minute of silence in memory of all Ukrainian heroes who had fought against the invaders and sacrificed their lives for Ukraine.
On the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, the President presented awards to the servicemen.
The Head of State also presented passports of citizens of Ukraine to 16 young Ukrainians who have reached the age of 14. Among them are children of Ukrainian defenders who are liberating our country from russian invaders, children of heroes who gave their lives defending the state, young men who were forced to leave their homes because of the threat to their lives from russian occupants.
