More than a million primary school students are provided with free meals at schools. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Cabinet on 4 February.
“For this purpose, the state has allocated a resource of over UAH 2.8 billion to communities this year. We plan to expand the programme to cover all students,” said Denys Shmyhal, adding that this was one of the Winter Support programmes successfully implemented by the Government.
Also, in January this year, the Teacher’s Supplement programme was launched and school teachers began to receive an additional monthly payment.
“We are talking about an additional payment of UAH 1,000 ‘in hand’ depending on the teacher’s teaching load. Starting from September, this supplement will be increased to UAH 2,000. We have provided UAH 12 billion of subventions in the budget for this year, and thanks to this, almost 500,000 teachers receive the supplement,” the Prime Minister stressed.
According to Denys Shmyhal, more than 90,000 people have already applied for the eBook programme, which provides 18-year-old Ukrainians with UAH 908 to buy Ukrainian books.
“More than 84,000 applicants have received the money. In this way, young Ukrainians read more Ukrainian books, and at the same time we support Ukrainian book publishing,” the Head of Government stressed.
