Ukraine calls on its partners to strengthen sanctions against russia to weaken the aggressor’s ability of waging a full-scale war. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a conversation with foreign journalists.
The Head of Ukrainian Government thanked the international partners for the sanctions packages already adopted and expressed hope that sanctions against the russian nuclear industry would be imposed in the near future.
“rosatom’s portfolio of foreign orders is worth USD 200 billion. Given the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and nuclear blackmail, it is important to send a signal to russia through sanctions that such actions are unacceptable,” emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of sanctioning individuals directly influencing the course of full-scale aggression, including the heads of rosatom and all enterprises related to the russian nuclear industry.
“The second step is to directly sanction the enterprises themselves and their contracts, in particular with European countries,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine noted.
According to the Prime Minister, the diamond industry is another sector that Ukraine would like to be included in the next package of sanctions.
Denys Shmyhal also called on the entire civilized world to join the creation of an international tribunal to condemn the war crimes of the russian political leadership.
“Ukraine has been cooperating with the International Criminal Court extremely fruitfully. But the International Criminal Court can only convict criminals who directly commit war crimes. There is no mechanism that would condemn the criminal orders given by the highest political leadership of russia,” the Prime Minister noted.
The Head of Ukrainian Government emphasized the importance of creating an international tribunal instrument that would allow to condemn politicians, the russian elite, and putin himself for the crimes he had committed in Ukraine since 2014.
