On February 20, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Kyiv.

The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine had made progress in implementing the Monitoring Program, in particular, by finalizing fulfillment of all structural benchmarks. The parties discussed the possibility of launching a new multi-year extended program worth over USD 15 billion. The IMF program is expected to consist of two parts: immediate financial support and support for structural reforms that would facilitate recovery.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko and Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko.

The participants discussed the mechanisms of financial support for Ukraine. In particular, the Prime Minister spoke about programs to support small and medium-sized businesses, while the First Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the possibility of introducing a mechanism to insure investments against war risks.

“I am pleased to hear the IMF’s appreciation of Government’s efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability and continue key reforms despite the war,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister thanked the IMF for its important support of Ukraine, which strengthened our country in its fight for freedom and democratic values.
