The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a number of important initiatives that lay down the framework for national climate governance in our legislation:
"This is Ukraine's implementation of the European Commission's recommendations and one of the financial instruments of the Ukraine Facility Plan," said Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
According to him, the strategy will become the main guideline for the implementation of climate policy in Ukraine and will clearly define the purpose, goals and its main measures.
The Framework Climate Law should become the foundation for further development of climate policy. It is the groundwork for the development of the ETS (EU Emmission Trading Scheme) and the further implementation of our plan regarding CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).
"All these instruments will create a cross-cutting link between the authorities and provide an architecture for climate-friendly recovery. We will have new opportunities for development and new pathways for innovation, investment and markets. The transition to climate neutrality is an irreversible process that involves all spheres of life," said Ruslan Strilets.
Ruslan Strilets added that the Ministry's experts worked closely with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action in drafting these documents.
"I believe that our ambitious plans for the development of climate architecture will be realised and that MPs will soon consider and approve the framework climate law," the Minister said.
