Today, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko met with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine Kristina Kvien to discuss key issues of economic cooperation. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine - Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka, representatives of the US Embassy in Ukraine, USAID Mission Director James Hope.
"Our countries are aimed at implementing the agreements based on the results of the meeting of our presidents, the 10th meeting of the Ukraine-US TIC (Trade and Investment Council – ed.) and the signing of a new Charter on Strategic Partnership. In particular, the key priorities of bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation include expanding trade, improving the investment climate, protecting intellectual property, strengthening corporate governance, prolonging economic reforms in Ukraine," said First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.
The parties tackled the creation of a favorable business climate for trade partnerships between Ukrainian and American companies in order to significantly increase their participation in the economies of both countries, especially in energy, agriculture, infrastructure development and more.
The Ukrainian side stressed that the Government of Ukraine would continue the policy of reforms aimed at restoring economic growth, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and bringing the country closer to the European and Euro-Atlantic future.
Along with digitalization, the launch of large-scale privatization, and the adoption of a law on state support for high-investment projects, Ukraine has taken a number of important steps to attract foreign investment. In particular, as of June 30, 2021, $860.8 million of investments from the USA were leveraged to the economy of Ukraine, which is 2% of the total volume of investments in Ukraine.
The parties also discussed the steps Ukraine is taking to ensure the protection of intellectual property rights. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the American side for Ukraine's support in this direction.
Background
Bilateral trade in goods and services between Ukraine and the United States for 9 months of 2021 amounted to $5,413.5 million, which is by 23.8% more than in the same period last year. Exports from Ukraine amounted to $2,482.7 million (+ 46%).
