On July 13, 2018, during the visit to Brussels, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with the EU Commissioner for the European Neighborhood Policy and Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

The officials welcomed the outcomes of the 20th EU-Ukraine Summit, enshrined in the Joint Declaration, and discussed ways of enhancement of Ukraine's political, economic and sectoral integration with the European Union.

The parties called on the Russian Federation to release all illegally detained Ukrainian political prisoners, in particular Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov, who had gone on hunger strike over 60 days ago.

The interlocutors touched upon the development of the Eastern Partnership initiative, in particular the expectations from the Eastern Partnership ministerial meeting slated for October 2018, Luxembourg, as well as the informal meeting of EU-Ukraine-Georgia-Moldova economy and trade ministers scheduled for September 2018.
