Situation update of General Staff of UAF regarding russian invasion as of 6 p.m., January 16, 2024

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

During the day of January 16, there were 85 combat engagements. The enemy launched a total of 2 missile and 13 air strikes, carried out 32 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian injuries. Private residential and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Around 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Hremyachka, Mykhalchyna Sloboda (Chernihiv oblast), Sosnivka, Atynske, Volfyne, Stepok (Sumy oblast), Udy, Vovchansk, Okhrimivka, Zemlyanky (Kharkiv oblast).

Kupyansk axis: the adversary conducted no offensives. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 9 assaults near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske (Donetsk oblast), and 15 more attacks near Makiyivka, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), and north of Hryhorivka, Vesele (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 15 settlements, including Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Hryhorivka, Serebryanka, Verkhniokamyanske, Spirne, Rozdolivka (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 6 attacks in the vicinities of Ivanivske, Andriyivka and Klishchiyivka (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, Andriyivka, New York (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiyivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 15 enemy attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiyivka, and 15 more attacks in the vicinities of Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). In that area, the occupiers, with air support, made unsuccessful attempts to improve their tactical situation. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 15 settlements, including Keramik, Berdychi, Stepove, Lastochkyne, Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).

Marinka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the invaders in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Maryinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). In that area, the adversary, with air support, made 16 failed attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. The invaders launched an air strike near the settlement of Kostyantynivka (Donetsk oblast). The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Pobjeda, Novomykhailivka, Kostyantynivka, Katerynivka were under artillery and mortar fire from the occupiers.

Shakhtarske axis: the adversary conducted no offensives. The invaders launched an air strike in the vicinity of Vodyane (Donetsk oblast). The adversary fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Vodyane, Prechystivka, Blahodatne, Staromaiorske, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast).

Zaporizhzhia axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 1 assault west of Verbove (Zaporizhzhia oblast). In that area the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost ground. Around 25 settlements, including Poltavka, Malynivka, Chervone, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Odesa operational-strategic group, Kherson axis: the adversary fired artillery at the city of Kherson, the vicinities of Antonivka, Dniprovske, Tyahynka (Kherson oblast). 

The occupiers do not abandon their intention to drive Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the enemy made 6 unsuccessful assaults. 

During the day of January 16, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 1 concentration of troops, weapons and military equipment. Also, Ukrainian air defense troops shot down 1 Kh-59 air-launched guided missile. 

The Ukrainian missile troops hit 1 concentration of troops, weapons and military equipment, 1 command post, 1 ammunition depot of the russian invaders.
