Material and technical renovation of state-run mines will allow to significantly increase national production, reduce the volume of necessary subventions and import of the resource that is currently taking place. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during A Question Time for the Government at the Verkhovna Rada.

"Ukrainian state-owned mines were systematically set adrift. Of these, they drained all the resources, miners were working in collieries in terrible conditions lacking security tools. And the current price of a ton of coal at state-run mines exceeds that at private mines", urged the Head of Government. "What are the options? To leverage resources for the modernization of mines, including, perhaps, to leverage private capital to provide people with job and the state with coal. "

Volodymyr Groysman emphasized that a practice of permanent coal import is a compulsory measure, which in due course should be reduced through the increase of domestic production and efficient use of the mined resource. In fact, all the changes in the extraction domain currently being carried out by the Government are directed to implement the aforesaid objectives.

"While the changes are underway it is crucial to ensure subventions. Another thing is that changes should be sped up. Let's unite our efforts to move out of the impasse", Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
