  • Oleksiy Honcharuk in Odesa: SES head in Odesa region and his deputy have been suspended from duties

    Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk commissioned the head of the SES (State Emergency Service of Ukraine) to suspend from duties in the period of the investigation the head of the SES department in Odesa region Viktor Fedorchak and his deputy responsible for prevention Mykhailo Vovk, and to take appropriate personnel decisions. The Head of Government stated during a meeting in Odesa with the participation of the leadership of the Odesa Regional State Administration (RSA), representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, SES, Ministry of Education and Science (MES), Prosecutor General's Office.

    “The situation when the last four headline-making fire accidents with casualties occurred in one area is unacceptable! I also appeal to the chairman of the Regional State Administration - a request to suspend from the duties the head of the Education Department Olexandr Lonchak and make appropriate personnel decisions on him as well,” said Oleksiy Honcharuk.

    Moreover, the Prime Minister gave a commission in the near term to the following officials:

    - Minister of Education and Science, Anna Novosad, to take an inventory of all the educational institutions and establish a real order within the educational institutions.

    - Minister of Internal Affairs to provide with a plan of fire safety measures throughout Ukraine.

    Oleksiy Honcharuk also met with the families of the killed and the victims, expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims and assured of the necessary assistance be provided.

    "Everyone who has lost relatives in this fire can count on the support of the authorities," said Alexei Goncharuk.

    The Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked "for the desperate work to every rescuer" and assured that all expenses for the treatment of firefighters will be covered by the state. And a rescuer Serhii Shatohin and a teacher Hanna Bortiuk, who saved dozens of other people at the cost of their lives, are worthy of being awarded the Hero of Ukraine.

    "I appealed to the chairman of the parliamentary faction David Arachamia with a request to prepare a recommendation to the President of Ukraine to confer the title Hero of Ukraine on each of them," the Prime Minister said.

    "The fire at a college in Odesa is not only a terrible tragedy for the entire Ukraine, but also a horrible crime. Those guilty will bear full and personal responsibility for what has happened," the Prime Minister emphasized.

    Meanwhile, on commission of the President, by January 10, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will conduct a detailed examination of the compliance with fire and technological safety requirements in kindergartens, schools, higher educational institutions, dormitories, health care institutions, transport infrastructure and other facilities. Also, thorough inspections should be conducted in shopping centers, cinemas, restaurants, hotels and more.
