  • Prime Minister explained why citizens received two payments for heating in January
Communications Department of the Secretariat of the CMU, posted 14 February 2020 15:02

This winter the Government in synergy with the local authorities had reduced payments for heating by up to 30% for individual heating users compared to the same period last year. This is the first time when tariffs for heating are not rising but dropping.

"However in January, people received two payments - for gas and its transportation. If we calculate a total sum of both payments, we will see that a total sum was lower in January this year as compared to the last year’s payments", Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said.

The Head of Government explained that previously the price for transportation was included in the payment. At present, it is separated by a decision of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission because there are two different companies which supply and transport gas. That is why people receive two payments.

"Why was it done so? In order not to have a monopoly and to create a civilized energy market because suppliers will compete with each other and offer gas at a cheaper price. And everyone will be able to choose the best offer", the Prime Minister emphasized.

Oleksiy Honcharuk added that the Government is continuing to make efforts to reduce payments for the Ukrainian families. The total amount for this heating season is already less than 30% than in 2019.
