  • Oleksandr Kubrakov: The process of transferring automobile checkpoints to the management of State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development has begun

The State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development will be responsible for implementing projects for the construction, repair, arrangement and modernization of road checkpoints, as well as their maintenance.

At the same time, the state policy for the development of such checkpoints, which will be directly implemented by the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development, will be shaped by the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted the relevant resolution.

"The development of logistics on the western borders remains one of the priorities of the Ministry. As part of this work, over the past year, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have opened 2 new checkpoints on the border with Romania, as well as a control point as part of the temporary infrastructure on the border with Poland. We also continue to simplify border crossing for our carriers and work to improve services for both drivers and passengers.

The Government's decision makes it possible to increase the number of new checkpoints and accelerate the modernization of existing ones. To do this, we will use the capabilities of the Restoration Agency, in particular in terms of attracting international donor assistance," commented Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development.

It should be noted, this year, as part of the Open Border project, the Dyakivtsi - Rakovec checkpoint on the border with Romania was opened for empty truck traffic, and the temporary infrastructure of the Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice checkpoint on the border with Poland was set up in the shortest possible time.

In 2022, another new border crossing point was opened on the border with Romania - Krasnoilsk-Vicovu de Sus. In addition, last year, the capacity of the Krakivets-Korczowa checkpoint was increased, the work before the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint was streamlined, and the passage of vehicles with a gross permissible weight of more than 7.5 tonnes was introduced.

    Background

As of today, Ukraine has established 100 automobile checkpoints and control points across the state border for automobile traffic, including international, interstate and local ones. Prior to the Government's decision, they were under the jurisdiction of the State Customs Service. Of these 100 checkpoints, 33 remain completely unequipped, and about 20 checkpoints built in the Soviet era require substantial reconstruction.
