    Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, posted 15 February 2021 10:05

    Currently, one of the priority tasks of the Government remains to increase the level of road safety in Ukraine. In the state budget, we have provided funds for this program to be successfully implemented. For 2021, the program provides about UAH 2.5 billion for the implementation of measures. Deputy Minister of Finance announced Oleksandr Kava during a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

    During the meeting, experts from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure discussed issues of financing and implementation of measures within the framework of the State Program for Improving Road Safety.

    "In 2020, according to the National Police, more than 168,000 traffic accidents were registered in Ukraine, in which 3,541 people died and 31,974 people were injured. We see that by now in Ukraine the level of mortality and injuries due to road accidents is higher than the European average," said the Deputy Minister.

    Among the effective ways to implement the program is to ensure appropriate safe conditions for passenger transportation by rail. This will allow to reduce the load on long-distance and urban public transport, as well as to increase the level of protection of passengers in general," said Olexandr Kava.

    In particular, in 2021 funds in the amount of about UAH 2.5 billion will be used to build and improve:

    • 200 pedestrian crossings;
    • 20 roundabouts;
    • elimination of 5 places of concentration of road accidents;
    • providing police, SES employees and medical personnel with the necessary equipment that will enable a more effective response to accidents and save the lives of victims;
    • implementation of dimensional and weight control over overloaded trucks, which are a source of increased danger.
