Today, the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Nemchinov and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Latvia Ilze Indriksone had a meeting.
The meeting also gathered together Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Ilgvars Kļava, Head of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency in Ukraine Ainārs Mežulis, President of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aigars Rostovskis, General Director of the Confederation of Latvian Employers Kaspars Gorkšs and Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Association of Spatial Planners Lina Dmitrieva. The Ukrainian side was represented by Deputy State Secretaries of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Voitovych and Ihor Yaremenko, as well as Executive Director of the Government Office for Investment Attraction and Support UkraineInvest Sergiy Tsivkach.
"I am pleased to welcome our guests to the capital of unbreakable Ukraine. This meeting will undoubtedly strengthen and further develop bilateral trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Latvia. In March, we held a meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Riga. During this event, fruitful bilateral meetings and business events were held, and a high potential for the development of bilateral economic cooperation was identified, especially in the areas of trade, transport, energy, and investment. The Ukrainian side is ready to implement the bilateral agreements. I believe that this event has become an important step towards the revival of trade and economic relations between our countries," said Oleh Nemchinov, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, opening the meeting.
In turn, the Latvian side assured that it stood ready to continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against the russian aggressor and on the path of Euro-Atlantic processes.
"During the 9th meeting of the Latvian-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission held this year in Riga, we reached a number of important agreements in various fields, and we are now actively working to implement these agreements. Today we have discussed Latvia's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine and the priority work that needs to be done. The plan of Latvia's support for the reconstruction of Chernihiv currently envisages, first of all, meeting the identified basic needs of the population of Ukraine. We have already been actively involved in providing support to this region in the energy sector, reconstruction of housing in Yahidne and repair of a garment company in Chernihiv," said Ilze Indriksone, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Latvia.
At the end of the meeting, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Latvia Ilze Indriksone presented a young oak tree from Latvian forests. It is symbolic that the oak tree is considered to be the national symbol of the Republic of Latvia, reflecting strength and resilience.
