Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Romania Florin Cîțu discussed the intensification of trade and economic cooperation and the development of border infrastructure.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine has stepped up the preparation of agreements on the construction of a bridge over the Tisza river and the opening of a new checkpoint at the common border, as agreed during a telephone conversation in February this year.

"The construction of a new bridge over the Tisza river between the Ukrainian village of Bila Tserkva and the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmației with the opening of a relevant international checkpoint is one of the important bilateral projects. It will not only have a favorable economic and cross-border effect, but will also strengthen Ukraine’s practical integration into the European space, " the Prime Minister of Ukraine noted.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine had submitted its proposals on holding consultations between Ukraine and Romania on the bridge crossing and hoped to hold them in the near future.

The Head of Ukrainian Government stressed that Ukraine also seeks to expand trade, economic and investment cooperation with Romania and is interested in holding the 3rd meeting of the Ukrainian-Romanian Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

In turn, Prime Minister of Romania noted that cooperation in the field of transport, energy and cross-border sectors with Ukraine is important for Romania.

Denys Shmyhal also thanked Romania for providing 100.8 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and personal protective equipment totaling EUR 1.2 million euros.
