The new two-track Beskydy tunnel, which is one of the largest infrastructure objects of the Ukrainian railway built in the years since independence, will be finally put into operation by the end of May - as required by the relevant government decree, stated Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in the course of a meeting with acting Chairman of the Board of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov
"It is important that we managed to handle the task. By the end of May the tunnel will be opened", the Head of Government underlined.
He emphasized that the tunnel is an important logistical component of the export routes of Ukrainian products to the European Union. "We must provide export assistance so that we will not have problems with the supply of products", the Prime Minister accentuated.
He also drew attention to the fact that, in the context of transportation, it is necessary to deal promptly with issues petraining to the provision of wagons and to improve the quality of service, especially regarding the passenger transportation.
According to the data provided by PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia, the new two-track tunnel will allow 96 pairs of trains to pass through per day. The current single-line tunnel can maximally skip 25 trains a day. The length of the tunnel is over 1700 meters. It is built with all the requirements of the region and meets the highest European characteristics.
