The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has published the first report on pollutant emissions and transfers for 2023. The report contains comprehensive information collected from the National Pollutant Emissions and Transfers Register, including data on emissions to air, water and soil.
The report covers a wide range of data and consists of several main sections:
Air pollutant emissions.
Information was collected on 60 indicators, which allows for a detailed assessment of the air environment.
Pollutant emissions into water resources.
Data was collected on 66 indicators that reflect the quality and safety of the country’s water resources.
Pollutant emissions to soil.
Data was collected on 57 indicators, which makes it possible to assess the impact of various industries and agriculture on the state of land resources.
The report is available here. It is automatically generated through the Unified Environmental Platform EcoSystem, which also contains a new functional search for easy access to data.
As a reminder, the Law of Ukraine “On the National Pollutant Release and Transfer Register” came into force on 8 October 2023, requiring polluting enterprises to submit data on their facilities to the PRTR within 6 months. The register was created similarly to the European one, but with a more convenient and simple online procedure.
Back then, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that it was planned to integrate the Ukrainian register into the European one within two years. Consultations are currently underway with representatives of the European PRTR to combine the components of both systems, which will allow Ukraine to exchange up-to-date and verified data with the EU competent authorities and synchronise its environmental policy.
