Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Tim Gitzel, President and CEO of CAMECO, one of the world’s largest natural uranium producers and conversion services providers. The meeting took place during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London.
In the context of earlier agreements between SE NNEGC Energoatom and CAMECO, the parties agreed to send a group of Canadian experts to Ukraine to analyse the situation in the Ukrainian uranium industry and help develop solutions for its development.
“CAMECO is ready to be our reliable partner in the development of the uranium mining industry. We are working on joint measures to invest in and modernise the uranium industry in order to strengthen our presence in Europe and oust the russians from this market segment,” said German Galushchenko.
As a reminder, in March-April 2023, Energoatom and CAMECO signed a series of agreements to ensure the use of uranium oxide concentrate produced in Ukraine and the supply of nuclear materials – natural uranium hexafluoride (natural UF6) for the needs of Energoatom until 2035 for further enrichment and production of nuclear fuel for Ukrainian NPPs.
