On 22 November 2018, the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Yuriy Stets, met with Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine.
The meeting sought to sum up the results of bilateral cooperation in the last twelve months and inaugurate a Japanese version of the website of Ukrinform, a national news agency.
“Over the last months, we have been testing the Japanese version of the website, and today, the test mode is completed. 22 November 2018 is the official launch of the Japanese version of the website of the Ukrinform news agency”, Mr Stets was quoted as saying.
The Minister stressed that it was important that a Japanese native speaker, recommended by the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, was responsible for the maintenance of the website version.
In turn, Japanese Ambassador Shigeki Sumi noted: “This is very good news for Japan’s Embassy. This will bring our countries closer, and ensure that credible information gets to Japan from Ukraine.”
The meeting was also attended by Oleh Nalyvaiko, Head of the State Television and Radio Committee; Oleksand Kharchenko, director of Ukrinform; Artem Bidenko, State Secretary of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine; Maryna Sobotiuk, Adviser to the Minister on International Communication; and Takashi Hirano, an editor of the Japanese version of Ukrinform website.
